Mobility project

Biopolymers from animal waste – collagen, elastin and keratin – to be used in food, cosmetics and as biomaterials

Thanks to the AgreenSkills programme, Vincenza will have the opportunity to work as a post-doctoral fellow at two research units of INRA (the BIA in Nantes and the QuaPa in Clermont-Ferrand)  focusing her activity on the valorisation of animal by-products for added-value applications in biomedicine, cosmetics, pharmaceutics and food

Biography & research interests

Vincenza attained a master degree in Chemical Engineering – with specialisation in food industry processes and plants – at the University of Salerno (Italy), and a PhD in Biotechnology at the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP), in Porto, where she spent the last 7 years. Before moving to Portugal, Vincenza was working for 1 year in an Italian company as a chemical engineer in the research and development department. The Marie Curie Actions FP6 project InSolEx-RTN (Innovative Solutions for Extracting high value natural compounds – Research & Training Network) provided her the opportunity to perform a doctorate abroad, which strongly contributed to enrich her professional and life experience. During her activity at the College of Biotechnology of UCP in Porto, Vincenza has been involved in several research projects, both at a national and international level. Main field of study has been the valorisation of agro-food products for the recovery of added-value compounds to be applied in food, cosmetics, biomaterials and pharmaceutics. She has been also working on the implementation of food safety and quality management systems of starch-derived products, on food microbiology, and on the recovery of plant antioxidants and essential oils by the supercritical technology. Thanks to the AgreenSkills programme, Vincenza will have the opportunity to work as a post-doctoral fellow at two research units of INRA (the BIA in Nantes and the QuaPa in Clermont-Ferrand)  focusing her activity on the valorisation of animal by-products for added-value applications in biomedicine, cosmetics, pharmaceutics and food.
